How to Choose a Windowsill Lamp: Size, Light and Style
Choose a lamp for your windowsill by considering the available space, the proportions you like and the atmosphere you want to create. This guide compares three compact TROP lamps and explains when a larger lampshade may suit your room.
Measure your windowsill first
Measure its depth and the clearance below shelves or window frames. The whole lamp needs a stable surface, with room for the cable. Check that the window can open without hitting it. The measurements below describe each lamp’s height and maximum diameter.
Which lamp suits your space?
- PLUMP: 15 cm tall, 13 cm in diameter. A low, rounded option when you want to keep an open feel around your window. Its two soft forms add a playful touch. Explore the PLUMP table lamp.
- VOBBEL: 25 cm tall, 11 cm in diameter. Taller and narrower than PLUMP, with flowing curves and a ribbed surface. Consider it when you want more height in your arrangement. Explore the VOBBEL table lamp.
- KOTTIS: 20 cm tall, 12 cm in diameter. The middle-sized option, with an intricate, scale-like surface that comes to life when lit. Explore the KOTTIS table lamp.
Choose light for the way you use the room
A windowsill lamp can give a room a softer feel in the evening. PLUMP and VOBBEL have integrated warm-white LED lighting. KOTTIS comes with a pre-installed LED spotlight and a soft, warm glow. All three plug into a wall socket.
Planning to read or work beside your lamp? Consider the light you need on the task itself. An atmospheric photograph alone will not tell you whether a lamp meets that need. The lamps in this guide are presented primarily as decorative lighting.
White, beige or grey?
All three models come in white, beige and grey. White can echo pale walls and window frames. Beige picks up warmer tones in wood and textiles. Grey can create a gentle contrast against lighter surfaces. Look at the lamp both lit and unlit when choosing your colour.
Styling idea: pair your lamp with one or two objects of different heights, such as a vase or a small plant. Leave space around it to show off the shape, and keep it away from curtains.
Looking for a larger focal point?
KOTTEN is a large lampshade, 45 cm tall and 25 cm in diameter, in white/translucent. Consider it for a more spacious position beside a sofa or on a separate lamp base. Include the base’s measurements when planning the overall size.
KOTTEN is 3D-printed and made to order in Malmö, Sweden. An elongated LED bulb is included. Lamp bases and suspension fittings are sold separately.
